Josh Ross: Country’s Breakout Star Who’s Doing It His Way

Written By: Samuel Hope, Mya Saroj

Josh Ross isn’t just riding the wave of country music—he’s carving out his own lane. With the release of his EP Complicated, Ross is blending traditional country with modern emotion, gritty vocals, and stories that hit deep. Tracks like “Trouble” and “Single Again” don’t just sound good—they feel real, and that’s the magic of Josh Ross.

Even though Complicated didn’t include “Ain’t Doin’ Jack” (a common mix-up), the EP still delivered a punch, setting Josh apart as one of Canada’s most exciting new voices in country. And while he’s proudly rooted in country, his musical DNA is layered.

“I grew up on classic rock,” Josh says. “My dad had me listening to all the old-school stuff; AC/DC, Skynyrd, you name it. But then I found my own lane with pop, rap, even a little R&B. It all shaped how I write.” That eclectic background gives Josh a sound that feels fresh, yet familiar.

The last year’s been a wild ride. Touring with Nickelback in 2023 gave him massive exposure and a chance to prove he could hold his own on some of the biggest stages in North America. “I learned so much being around those guys,” he recalls. “It taught me how to show up and give everything to the crowd, every night.”

Now, he’s currently on the road with Jelly Roll, another genre-blending powerhouse. “That’s my guy,” Josh laughs. “We vibe heavy. It’s not just music, it’s stories, it’s life. And the fans feel that.” Their connection on and off stage adds a rich, emotional layer to each performance, with crowds responding to the raw, real energy they both bring.

When asked about his songwriting process, Josh keeps it simple but honest. “Melody comes first. Always. I’ll have words or phrases in my head, but if the melody doesn’t hit you in the chest, it won’t matter. You gotta feel it first.” This also applies to his latest single, “Leave Me Too” a heartbreak anthem that leans into his vulnerable side without losing his edge. According to Universal Music’s press release, it’s already gaining serious traction and hints at what’s next from the rising star.

His message to fans? Stay in your lane. “Don’t chase what other people are doing. Just be real. There’s nothing better than standing in front of a crowd, singing something that actually came from your heart—and knowing they feel it too.”

Right now, Josh is deep in the studio, building on the momentum with new music that promises even more honesty, more grit, and more growth. “This next chapter’s personal,” he says. “I’ve lived through a lot in the last couple years. I just hope people hear that and feel seen.”

So, whether it’s sold-out shows, country radio spins, or Spotify playlists, one thing’s for sure; Josh Ross is just getting started, and he’s doing it all his way.
